radeonfb and xf86-video-ati 6.7.192

Hi,

I just switched to radeonfb because that gives me a nice 1280x800
resolution while booting but I'm having trouble to startx afterwards.
I'm with 2.6.22.6 and xorg-7.3 currently, my card is a RS480/XPress 200M.

With those two options in menuconfig enabled, I have weird fullscreen
color switches from white, black, red, green to blue. The system doesn't 
respond on keyboard/mouse anymore and I can only power it off by a sleep 
2m && reboot workaround while starting X from another console.

Without those options enabled but with kernel command line
video=radeonfb:1280x800 I can startx and even move my cursor around (a 
watch on a black background). However, it doesn't go further, no xfce 
showing up.

Won't the radeon driver work with radeonfb?
