Attached is Xorg.0.log
Note this was created using:
     xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.7.195~git20071017tv
the "upstream update"
from:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge
http://ppa.launchpad.net/tormodvolden/ubuntu/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-ati/

Which made no difference at all to the washed out appearance compared
to the current standard gutsy deb.
