I wondered that myself. Probably to minimize the motherboard changes;
so they can use one motherboard and just solder a single or dual link
chip onto the same traces.

It's probably different than ibook; I think it works with the default
connector table. They use the primary dac for vga as it has separate
tv and vga ports. It's probably just like 3,[45] but with VGA instead
of DVI.
