Most definitely: I have rebuilt 'the xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.7.194-2.fc8' driver
package using a tar-ball produced from the current git tree, and now I'm
actually able to switch between X and virtual consoles at will without crash.
Great work!
The issue thus seems to be solved, I now have to get familiar with the new
Xrandr stuff though ..
