FWIW, airlied has some experimental support for sil164s here:

might be a good start. Although I would have thought the Powerbook would have
used an sil1178 or similar dual link chip so it could drive the big Apple
monitor; depends on the model I guess.
I have a radeon with an sil1162, however I cannot seem to get any response from
it via the bit-banging interface, so started work on full i2c support based on
the gatos code:
