I have tried 6.7.198~git20071223.ad3325f6-1 now.
Indeed, I no longer have to add the MacModel option.

However, this time my external display doesn't blank after a while, but is
blanked  already at X start (I see it get switched on though).  When I try to
access the menu of my display it claims to be in powersave mode.

The xorg.conf is the same as I have attached before.  I have added an updated
logfile.
