can you attach the output of xrandr?  Does it help if you switch to another
mode and back?

xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1024x768
xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1600x1200 --rate 85
xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1600x1200 --rate 75
