Is that required for your setup?  It looks like it might be nvidia specific.

The old driver ignored what the monitor's preferred mode choice and just took
the largest supported mode.  You can either manually change it with xrandr or
add a monitor section and link it to the VGA-0 output and override with your
own preferred mode.
