I believe this should be fixed in ati git master or the ati 6.7.x releases. 
The driver uses the edid modes directly, and there is even the option to toggle
the which tmds pll table to use via an output attribute.  Beyond that, I don't
think there's much more we can do.  My flakey boards are all working fine now
with ati git master.
