Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.6.3-2
Severity: important
Hi X Strike Force,
I'm fighting with my new (2nd hand) iBook G4 and found the following
behaviour in it:
(I don't run ?dm, the computer starts in text console mode)
- Start X, the GPU temperature starts to rise *very* quickly
- The temperature will reach 80 Celsius and fan will turn on
(don't know how far it would go)
- No matter whether you remain in X or quit, the temperature won't
descent
Now, if you suspend the laptop (by closing the lid) and resume
(just after a couple of secs.) not only the temperature will be
much lower, it will remain that low (~60C). That will happen
whether you suspend after quitting X OR even if you stay in X before
and after resuming.
So the problem seems to be in the initialization of the video card.
My video card conf:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Generic Video Card"
# Driver "radeon"
Driver "ati"
BusID "PCI:0:16:0"
Option "UseFBDev"
"true"
VendorName "ATI"
# Option "AGPMode" "4"
EndSection
I've tried both 'radeon' and 'ati' drivers and AGPMode 4 and none (1).
All with the same result. So it could be a kernel (module) problem
(2.6.19.1).
Thanks,
Alberto
