FWIW, I have created a fork, committed 4 changes and request a merge
and the CI has passed (I have made two supplementary modifications and
now the build succeeds by default on NetBSD---and should on any BSD;
supplementary are putting INPUT_FILE last for sed(1); and adding a
needed dependency on xproto headers for Xautest.c).
