Sorry - but what are you talking about?  X.Org has not changed the
appearance of the default XC_pirate cursor, but if you're using a cursor
theme, then it may override it.

(The entire cursor.bdf font file defining the default X.Org cursors has
  not changed one bit since we imported them from X11R6.6 in 2003:

  and I'd bet if we found the prior code history, hasn't changed for a
