So you are trying to use XDMCP to connect to a remote host.

I reckon your XDMCP query got denied by the remote server, which should log
an error but because of an old bug in the older version of the Xserver you
use causes a crash.

The particular problem with the  "Unsupported printf directive '*'" has
been fixed circa xserver-1.17 iirc (with git commit d3080d4, git describe
d3080d4 gives xorg-server-1.17.0-26-gd3080d4) , however that would solve
your problem which is that the remote server is denying the XDMCP
connection, and that's not a bug in the X server but rather a configuration
issue on your side.
