I am reading the Automake mailing lists. It looks like it is not a good
idea of using top_srcdir to pick source code here and there in different
subdirs. What they are trying to do is to rectify the situation in 2.0
by making subdir-objects mandatory which is what should have been the
(only) behaviour all along. Bottom line is that we have to do something
nicer before 2.0 hit the streets.
