Add custom gesture recognition to touchpad and touchscreen driver module

I am a third year student at BITS-Pilani , India.  I am a good in the C language.I would like to apply for the X Input project proposed by you in Google Summer of code 2013, but I am confused as to how should I approach the topic. Can you guide me about how to start so that I can make  a good proposal.
