Well including that patch certainly stopped the crashes for me at the
time.  So for that reason I'm happy to say:

However I have to say that that I'm no longer running that patch: The
X server package got updated by Fedora, and I'm now running
accelerated graphics, so the crash never came back, so I haven't had
to rebuild with the patch.
