[PATCH 2/5] Move to autoconf standard function name checks & defines

Twas brillig at 10:48:13 02.12.2011 UTC-08 when alan.coopersmith at oracle.com did gyre and gimble:

 AC> Replace multiple methods of checking for funcs calls with AC_CHECK_FUNCS
 AC> Replace multiple methods of selecting fallback funcs with AC_REPLACE_FUNCS
 AC> Replace HAS_* and NEED_* #defines with autogenerated HAVE_*
