Here is a bug report with some extra information on how it could be
improved greatly but probably not totally fixed.

A good chunk of users will no longer need to use 2-finger emulation
once they upgrade to 2.6.38 kernels with semi-mt support on synaptics.
In fact, this code gets disabled with semi-mt devices. So my
original reason for trying to get it working out of the box for everye
on is not really there.
So I'm OK with reverting it.
