After reading your comments, I can see how this would be useful for
auditing modelines.

However, when I tried to apply your patch, I saw :

error: patch failed: hw/xfree86/modes/xf86Modes.c:318
error: hw/xfree86/modes/xf86Modes.c: patch does not apply

I'm using the latest git as of today (last commit is
38c46ccf796462d068d95acb9022de2acfc3a1f7).
