Twas brillig at 12:33:01 11.06.2010 UTC-07 when aritger at nvidia.com did gyre and gimble:

I agree to Jamey here -- does it really belong to mi? Servers other than
xfree86 do not use it, and only single xfree86 driver uses it. Maybe it
should be moved to separate shared library if some other driver will
want to make use of it?

It's definitely post-1.9 material though, so there's time to discuss
proper solution and transition plan.

I checked it - it does not.

 AR> Overlays are still compelling for some workstation applications.

Interesting. Any details on this?
