CopyArea followed by GetImage is a nice hack which avoids the terrible
GetImage restriction (area must be on-screen or you get an
error). One can assume that a render-preferring application might use
Composite in the same fashion.

Might it be reasonable to add a subwindows mode flag to SourceValidate?
That would let us avoid work in the common case.
