Please remember that the goal of switching to the current release model
was to get releases made on time and avoid regressions. Given our
previous record of making release dates has been a subject of some
ridicule in the press, I'd say the process for 1.8 has improved on that
score at least.
I was trying to elicit specific problems that you observed to guide
how to change the process while still keeping the key benefit of timely
and stable releases.
I still think you should try doing EXA development in a separate tree
and asking to have that merged to master when it's got good stuff in
it. Anyone interested in tracking EXA would get the added benefit of
running precisely what you've been testing and avoiding all of the
non-EXA work which might destabilize their servers.
