Lost keyboard events after starting DBUS

We're debugging a really strange problem with TigerVNC:s Xvnc: After 
executing:

eval `dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session`

in a xterm window, then keyboard events are occasionally lost. If you 
type, say, 1234567890, you will actually end up with something like 
12356890. It's a race condition: Many attempts to debug the problem makes 
it go away. For example, if you strace:e bash or the xterm, it disappears. 
The problem also seems to disappear by itself after 1 minute or so. Even 
more interesting is that the problem occurs even if dbus-launch is 
started without a DISPLAY environment variable. Seen before, in any form?
