    silent: Set AM_DEFAULT_VERBOSITY for compatibility on older automake
    
    Custom silent rules will become recursive on older automake where
    AM_SILENT_RULES is not included. Set AM_DEFAULT_VERBOSITY in this
    fallback case for compatibility.
