Hi everyone. The scenario is as follows. Fedora core 8 Linux Kernel 2.6.26.3-14 Dual-Heap PCI nVidia Adapter (geForce family) Latest nVidia drivers directly from their website ver 96.43.07 2gb Memory Raid 5 Software Raid Array with LVM. So here is what happens. 1- I log into my system as a user, default desktop is KDE 2- I go to a alternate Virtual Console (Ctrl-ALT-F6) 3- Start a new xsession xinit -- :1 -depth 16 4- Switch back to my default console (Ctrl-ALT-F7), and all is still well. 5- Switch again to the alternate Virtual Console just to find that the GUI has seeming disappeared but somehow still running! That is to say that when i switch back to the alternate console, i am greeted with a text console screen as if i had never launched xinit however a prompt has not been returned to me, hitting carriage ret just scrolls the screen. From my default Virtual console i can tell that xinit -- :1 is still running, the process has not died, i just don't see pretty pictures when i go back to VC6. At this point it appears that my only recourse is to press ctrl-c to kill xinit and restart it. (Yuck, specially if i was working on something) Has anyone seen this behavior before?
