xorg-server-1.5.3 + xf86-video-intel-2.6.3 is slow at 2D

I tested KDE 4.2.1's konsole and saw that it moves OK. Thinking that this will 
solve the problem without me taking a swim through git commits, I purged KDE 
3.5.9 and installed 4.2.1. Now Kate (my editor of choice) moves slow. I feel 
like I can't win here. :)

I will take your advice and see if reverting/applying those commits will 
improve my experience.
