uClibc is in heavy development.
perhaps you can forward your problems building with uClib to the uClib Mailinglist ?

IMHO the lack of I18N (i do not know the state of uClib here either!) is not
a problem since it is designed for memorytight systems where it is unlikly to have
i18n at all.
