intel xrandr problems

hello

I'm using xorg-server-1.3 and xf86-video-i810 2.0.0 modesetting driver
(i915 chipset). When I attach my external VGA monitor to the notebook,
the card clones the screen output.

LVDS: 1024x768
VGA: 1280x1024

Xrandr works fine, I can arrange the external monitor with xrandr
--output VGA --auto --left-of LVDS.

But then, strange things happen. The VGA becomes the primary monitor
(panel goes there), but the bigger problem is: xv (libxv-1.0.3)
becomes unstable. When placing xv overlay to the VGA, it results in a
black window. Maximizing the xv window the overlay is visible but only
on about 20% column on the left. On LVDS overlay doesn't work at all.

I have tried it with the latest git version of the intel driver, but
still no success.
Any way to get the xv right when using xrandr and VGA output? And are
there any configuration options to use the LVDS as primary monitor
with xrandr dualhead?

yours,
 hege
