When there is no DRM support, 3D falls back to using the software patch.
 I'm sure you also notice in that case that it's *much* slower.

As for problems with the SiS driver, I don't think it has gotten any
support in a long time.  Do you see errors in all applications (e.g.,
glxgears), or just some?  Could you post a link to a screen shot?  Could
you also post the output of glxinfo?
