And then I log out, and the laptop immediately locks up again! So I'll amend my
original report to say that disconnecting the HDMI adapter *doesn't* prevent
the problem after all, despite appearing to with my initial tests!
I've currently reconnected the HDMI adapter and put the TV on standby. xrandr
now reports the following:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3840 x 1200, maximum 8192 x 8192
DVI-0 connected 1920x1080+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
698mm x 392mm
1920x1080 50.00*+ 60.00
DIN disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-1 connected primary 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y
axis) 546mm x 352mm
1920x1200 59.95*+
1600x1200 60.00
1680x1050 59.88
1600x1000 60.01
1280x1024 75.02
1280x960 60.00
1152x864 75.00
1024x768 75.08 60.00
832x624 74.55
800x600 75.00 60.32
640x480 75.00 60.00
720x400 70.08
I don't know whether GNOME shell remembers any "state" between sessions
relating to numbers and size of screens - something like that could have
affected my previous tests with DVI-0 appearing and disappearing.
