<pre>If you run startx from ssh and reproduce the problem, is there more information
in the X server's stderr output, e.g. about an unresolved symbol or an
assertion failure?
Another approach would be to attach gdb to the X server process before
reproducing the problem and, assuming the X server crashes, get a backtrace and
attach it here. See
