Two other remarks:

* Viewing the same PDF as linked above with epdfview 0.1.6
(http://trac.emma-soft.com/epdfview/) works fine.

* Setting "memory usage" to "low" in Okular's configure dialog seems to help,
too. "Normal (default)" and Aggressive seem to trigger it, both.

Maybe #28159 is related to this?
