thx for the how-to - I've done everything accordingly.

with the cairo-dock it still keeps hanging but without the dock it doesn't!!!

I stopped using it and I am at the moment in a long-term experiment. It looks
like the server only freezes due to cairo-dock...

is there a way to find out which progress exactly locks up X ?

I'll let you know, if the server keeps hanging without the dock.
