Sounds like alpha may need an alternate pragma pack.  See bug 14594.

Try removing the following lines from configure.ac:

case $host_os in
*linux*)
AC_DEFINE(FGL_LINUX, 1, [Use linux pragma pack]) ;;
esac

then re-run autogen.sh and rebuild.
