I think we are all in agreement that the original reason for having this option no longer stands<BR>
and this option is not critical for any other use we might think of.<BR>
<BR>
If the reviewers are satisfied, I'd like to present this patch to release management with the appropriate tags.<BR>

There will still be 85 other configure options to play with :-)<BR>
