You should clearly be using a distribution that supports live-source 
packages. =) It's one command for me to update the X server and all its 
dependencies to current git.

No doubt this same problem affects many other large projects that also 
work around problems with their developers' package managers. Would it 
be better to get your package manager to add this feature?
